Each floor except the first has a checkbox for Offset. When this checkbox is checked, the walls of this floor are considered to have moved inwards from the walls of the floor below, leaving an area of the floor below uncovered. It must be roofed over, and computing the elevation of that roof, as well as taking care of the internal wall and floor adjustments, is what this option does.

The plan shows how such a floor can be implemented. Surrounding the recessed walls is a manual floor piece that acts as the ceiling over the exposed floors below the recess - it is displayed in the yellow manual floor color. Above that is a roof matching the main roof in pitch and soffit width, placed to protect the lower floors. Note that the horizontal displacement, or offset, is up to the user; HighRise shows a sample displacement, but it doesn't really affect the vertical that HighRise is planning.
There are no further adjustments required. The elevation and thickness of the manual floor piece usually matches that of the autofloor it fulfills. HighRise makes adjustments to the wall heights, and, of course, adds the roof elevation computation. The additional elevation measurement is reflected on the second page, and as an additional line in the text block optionally placed on the plan.
