TruckTrek Modules

With version 1.1.1 TKE is offering subsets of the entire TruckTrek database for sale. These modules offer the user the ability to obtain functionality that he needs without purchasing the rest which he presumably does not. This is also a great way to invest a little to see if TKE is indeed giving the user the completeness and accuracy it promises in its data before investing in the whole TruckTrek database.

Unfortunately, all is not beer and skittles, as much as TKE would desire it to be. For reasons known only to Microsoft, Streets and Trips is unable to easily combine pushpin datasets. This means that if a user owns the Rest Areas module and the Truck Stop module, he can view one or the other in Streets and Trips, but not both combined on the same map. TKE regrets (heartily) that this is the case, but cannot affect the way in which Streets and Trips operates, and thus this page in the User Guide. There is no feasible work-around for this problem, except for cutting and pasting each pushpin from one of the sets into the other individually, and very long, tedious and error-prone task.

Since TKE has all of the data (of course), it is possible for TKE to prepare and send a combined version of a pushpin set to a particular user who can prove that he owns the modules which he wishes to be combined. Preparing a combined set is a fair amount of work (though less than the cut/paste mentioned above). The problem is that there are 28 such combinations involving any two modules in TruckTrek, for instance, and a further 21 combinations involving any three modules, and so on. Too many to prepare in advance.

As an assist to our customers, TKE will undertake to perform this on a custom basis for any of our customers that need this to be done, given the following requirements:

The request will be acknowledged as soon as possible, and the combination will be prepared within three working days. When it is ready it will be encrypted and placed on the TKE website for download. Instructions will then be sent to the user. The download will be removed from the site after a being posted for a week.

We regret this limitation on the usefulness of your products bought from TKE; if there was a more reasonable work-around, you may be sure we would bring it to your attention.
